Well... We are nearly there... I'm just putting the final touches on the class schedule to be posted tomorrow.
We have some great classes - from quick fun classes like Yo-yos, Fabric Postcards and Making Custom Quilt Labels to some great quilt projects from antique quilts- like Crosses & Losses and Young Man's Fancy.
We have 3 new teachers this time: Melissa- who many of you may have met when you have been in the store- she is our full time girl who has a wide variety of interests and talents; Mary who also works for us usually 2 days/week and she has a great background garment sewing and quilting; and Annlee- who has recently returned to the USA from England where she worked with some of the museums there and both wrote and edited quilt books.
We are excited what these three stellar teachers are offering this spring and hope that you will stop by and meet them and take a look at the samples in the classroom when they go up next week.
In the mean time Harriet is hard at work putting her high school geometry lessons to work as she works on writing the drafting chapter for our 4th volume in the Quilter's Academy series. It all about 60° and 45° angles- diamonds mostly- LeMoyne stars, in-set piecing and partial seams... I soon will be hard at working making quilts for the book and am looking forward to that fun challenge!

We have been busy at the store getting the class schedule ready to go as well as getting our NEW & IMPROVED website launched.

Fall Class Newsletter and Class Schedule
October? Really? Where has the time gone? It seems like it was the beginning of summer just a few days ago...
First Harriet and I want to thank everyone for your patience as we make the transition from doing printed schedules to digital!
As we wrote in the very first Harriet's e-News, we are in the final stages for creating a brand new website! We are really looking forward to the upgrade to our 12 year old site, it will not only make it easier for all our loyal, dedicated quilting customers from around the world to find what they need, but will be a useful resource to all of our local customers as well as we will have a whole section dedicated to Harriet's Treadle Arts. After this fall that is where you will find all the newsletters and class schedules and events that we are planning as you read this!
Next time you are in, be sure to meet our three new employees- Melissa, Kathy and Mary- and welcome them to our great quilting family!
Also make sure you check out all the new fun, fast and easy Christmas quilting project kits we have ready for you if you are in need of a great Christmas gift for a friend.

A Skill-building Course in Quiltmaking
This is the ultimate how- to series for beginners! In this series Harriet and Carrie are teaching piecing and starting beginners on the best footing possible for a life-long adventure in the art of quiltmaking. These classes are not just about projects – they are about techniques and personal working styles that will give you a foundation of skills that will allow you to go anywhere you desire with your quilting!
Based on Harriet & Carrie’s series of books Quilter’s Academy.
This is a continuing set of session classes and you must have had Session 1 and 2 (formally 1B) to take Session 3 (formally 2) & 4 . You must have only had Session 1 in order to take Quilter’s Academy Machine Quilting.
Please Note: Depending on the number of students in class and the pace at which class moves, you may at times be released from class early or late. Please make arrangements so that if class runs late you do not have to rush off and may stay for the entire duration, no later than 5pm.
Session 1 is a pre-requisite for this class! Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch.
Basic Heirloom Machine Quilting Harriet is known internationally as the originator of the machine quilting revolution in the early 1980’s. Her book Heirloom Machine Quilting created a new era in quilting. Harriet’s teaching skills, and your desire to master the technique, can turn you into an excellent machine quilter. This two-day class – made up of lectures, demos and hands-on practice time – gives you plenty of time to grasp the techniques… and you are quilting feathers by 3pm on the 2nd day! Promise! Please be sure to make arrangements so that you do not have to leave class early.

Quilter's Academy Basics
This basics class has been designed for anyone who cannot attend Session 1 this fall. In this class you will learn the basic techniques you will need for success whether you plan to work through the book series on your own or if you plan to take Session 1 the in the Spring. You will learn the secrets of straightening your fabric, accurate rotary cutting and mastering your perfect seam allowance. There are no pre-requisites for this class and this class not is requirement to move on to Session 1, but is highly recommended for all students wanting to improve their accuracy in their piecing. 1 class $50

This class is especially designed for brand new quilters, but experienced quilters are sure to take away tons of new and useful information. Beginning with obtaining your perfect seam allowance, cleaning up sewing and pressing issues, in 4 weeks you will work through making 3 quilt tops based in strips and squares to start you down a path to be a great quilt maker. Applying borders will also be covered. *Please note- this session is required before any other session can be taken. In this class you will continue on with strips and squares, but now learning how to set them on point in a diagonal setting. We will also delve further into creating your quilt recipe, perfecting figuring yardage, and start you on the path to designing your own quilts while learning about diagonal set quilts and incorporated borders. 
Session 1 is a pre-requisite for this class! Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch.

Pine Needles
In this class, you will make one of McKenna Ryan’s Pine Needles Art Quilts. We will discuss fabric selection, using fusibles, and how to cut and layer your art quilt wall hanging. You will have a good start on your small masterpiece- as well as all the knowledge to tackle any other fusible appliqué project at the end of class. • Class fee is due in full upon registration payable by cash, check and credit card.
• You may register by phone with a credit card
• Be sure to get your supply list prior to your class starts- this is your responsibility- not ours.
• If you cannot come into the store to pick your supply list up we will be happy to fax it to you, or you can send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the store and we will mail your supply list to you.
• If you request that we mail your supply list and you do not send a SASE we will charge you 50¢ for postage.
• Please check class dates carefully before registering. Fees are only refundable if and only if the store or the teacher cancels the class. Transfers or credits can only be made if we can fill your space in the class.
Class Experience Levels:
Level 1- No particular skill level is required. All students can successfully complete course content.
Level 2- No prior piecing and/or quilting experience needed. You do need to know how to use your sewing machine.
Level 3- Basic piecing skills required. You should know how to rotary cut well and sew with an accurate seam allowance.
Level 4- Basic quilting skills required. You should be able to use your walking foot and have a basic understanding of free-motion quilting.
Level 5- Confident piecing skills needed. You need to have understanding of strip piecing, squares and triangles for this level.

Shop Hop is coming up... don't miss the fun!
Just a quick note to remind everyone that the 11th annual Rocky Mountain Quilt Fever Shop Hop is coming up this weekend.
All the quilts are really different this year which should be fun for all of you to see- they really show off the personality and specialty of each shop! Ours is hanging in the classroom.
We will have the specially designed Colorado toile out for sale... be sure to stock up on it- it is beautiful and designed just for us!
Harriet is baking cookies again and we will have some great giveaways in the store as well as lots of new fabric, books and patterns.
