Carrie’s master’s study was on quilting thread… she spent 4 years testing and studying 56 different threads to find the answer to these questions. Come learn about all threads you know and maybe some that you don’t know while Carrie shares all the pertinent information from her study with you.

The Inside Story

An in-depth discussion of what is happening to batting in today’s quilt market. Popular brand name products will be discussed and quilts will be shown to evaluate what effect each product has on the look and personality of the finished quilt, as well as their characteristics and longevity. Fiber content will be examined, as well as specific considerations for the amount of quilting needed. This lecture is designed to give quilters lots of options and choices when choosing batting for each top. Harriet will give attendees testing processes to chase away any confusion

Caring for Today’s Quiltmaking Fabric

So much fear is involved with the fabrics that quilter’s use today: bleeding, color migration, shrinkage and fading being among the top concerns. This lecture is geared to helping participants become more comfortable with what is happening with out fabrics today. Dye stability, thread count, pre-washing vs. not, chemicals and detergents and recommended care of fabrics and quilts will be explored. This lecture has received rave reviews and has put confidence and choice making back into the quilter’s hands, as well as saving untold yards of fabric and quilts. Based on Harriet’s book From Fiber to Fabric.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH

American Beauty- Block of the month

We fell in love with this quilt at Quilt Market and so are doing our first Block of the Month ever! The American Beauty quilt featuring Marti Michell's new fabric line called Wi ld Roses features 12- 12” blocks set on point. As you work through the blocks the complexity increases helping you to build your skills as you make this beauty!
You will meet once a month with Debbie, get your new set of instructions, cut out and start making the block for that month. The 12-month program will cost $30/month and includes your class time, the kit with all the fabric (except backing), as well as the ruler and template set you need to complete the quilt. Space is limited– we only have 12 kits for this beautiful quilt! You will have an 84” x 104” quilt ready to layer and quilt when you are done! You must commit to the entire program.
