A Skill-building Course in Quiltmaking
This is the ultimate how- to series for beginners! In this series Harriet and Carrie are teaching piecing and starting beginners on the best footing possible for a life-long adventure in the art of quiltmaking. These classes are not just about projects – they are about techniques and personal working styles that will give you a foundation of skills that will allow you to go anywhere you desire with your quilting!
Based on Harriet & Carrie’s new book Quilter’s Academy- Vol. 1, Your Freshman Year
This is a continuing set of session classes and you must have had Session 1 and 2 (formally 1B) to take Session 3 (formally 2) & 4 . You must have only had Session 1 in order to take Quilter’s Academy Machine Quilting.
Please Note: Depending on the number of students in class and the pace at which class moves, you may at times be released from class early or late. Please make arrangements so that if class runs late you do not have to rush off and may stay for the entire duration, no later than 5pm.
Session 1 - The Basics
This class is especially designed for brand new quilters, but experienced quilters are sure to take away tons of new and useful information. Beginning with obtaining your perfect seam allowance, cleaning up sewing and pressing issues, in 4 weeks you will work through making 3 quilt tops based in strips and squares to start you down a path to be a great quilt maker. Applying borders will also be covered. *Please note- this session is required before any other session can be taken. Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch.4 classes $160 ($40/class)

Session 2- Diagonal Settings
(Formally Session 1b) In this class you will continue on with strips and squares, but now learning how to set them on point. We will also delve further into creating your quilt recipe, perfecting figuring yardage, and start you on the path to designing your own quilts while learning about diagonal set quilts and incorporated borders. Session 1 is a pre-requisite for this class! Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch.

Session 3-Triangles
(Formally Session 2)Triangles are the starting point of endless possibilities for great quilts! There are so many ways to make triangle units and many of them will be explored in this class. You will learn the most accurate piecing method(s) for you and then apply those skills to make fabulous quilts! Half- and quarter-square triangles as well as flying geese units will be covered thoroughly and in class 4 you will construct a Feathered Star wall hanging. Session 1 & 2 are pre-requisites for this class! Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch.5 classes $150 ($30/class)

Session 4- 6 & 8 pointed stars
In this 4th in the series session, you will work with 45° and 60° diamonds to master set-in piecing for these wonderful blocks! Harriet will walk you step-by-step through Sharyn Craig’s “Y” seam method. By the end of the first day you will have mastered 6” LeMoyne Stars. In weeks two through four you will then set out to explore all the different types of blocks that can be made with either 45° or 60° diamonds- including making a small Lone Star block. Session 1, 2 & 3 are pre-requisites for this class! Please bring a snack if necessary, as there will be no break for lunch. 4 classes $120 ($30/class)

Quilter’s Academy Machine Quilting
If anyone can teach you to machine quilt, Harriet can! Harriet has been teaching this class nationally and internationally for more than 30 years. Her book Heirloom Machine Quilting is the best selling text on machine quilting and is now in its 4th edition. In this class, you will begin with an in-depth discussion of supplies, including needles and threads, quilt preparation and your workspace. Then it is on to the stitching techniques of ditch quilting and free-motion quilting. You will end the class with a discussion investigating the secrets of batting and starting a library of batting samples and learning about binding and different quilting ideas. * Please note: Session I is a pre-requisite for this class.

Quilter’s Academy Home School
Are you working through Quilter’s Academy-Volume 1 at home because you can’t take the class? Just for you – we are offering a Quilter’s Academy Home School class once a month. Bring in your projects, your questions, problems and success and Harriet and Carrie will be here to help you with issues, give advice, and cheer you on as you expand you quiltmaking skills. Quilter’s Academy Home School is for people working though the book on their own only- it is not open for those who have taken the classes at the store.Sat., Mar, 6, Apr 3, May 8 & Jun 12 12:30-4pm
